Forms of Energy (SC.5.P.10.1 & SC.5.P.10.2)
Objectives:
❶ I can identify and describe different forms of energy including light, heat, sound, electrical, chemical, and mechanical.
❷ I understand that energy has the ability to cause motion or create change.

What is energy?
Answer ==> Energy is the ability to do work. Energy can make things move or change and can be transferred from one form to another and from one object to another.
Energy can appear in MANY different forms, but there are SIX basic forms. Describe them below, and give examples of each (I've done the first one for you).
1. Mechanical Energy - energy that an object has due to its motion or position. Mechanical energy is a combination of potential energy, and kinetic energy. Potential energy is stored energy that an object has because of it's position, and kinetic energy is energy that an object has because of its motion. Examples of mechanical energy are a marble rolling down a ramp, and a sky diver as he jumps out of a plane.
2. Electrical energy comes from the movement of charged particles, such as electrons. Example:
3. Thermal Energy- Heat or thermal energy is how hot or cold an object is. Example:
4. Light Energy- Light energy is a type of wave energy which can be sensed by the eyes. Example:
5. Chemical Energy- Chemical energy is the energy released when a substance undergoes a chemical change. Example:
6. Sound Energy- Sound energy is the energy of sound waves as they travel. Example:
